Provision of wigs is one of the NHS services detailed in the gender reassignment protocol (2012).

On 24th December 2015 the Chair of the National Gender Identity Clinical Network for Scotland (NGICNS) sent a letter (link below) to all health boards in Scotland clarifying their requirements around the provision of hair removal, assisted conception services and the provision of wigs to gender diverse people in Scotland:
